At the post, you can also look for a poem called “Transfigured Night” by Richard Dehmel. It is originally called “Verklärte Nacht” as it is originally written in German. I have included both the English and German versions. There, you can appreciate how the moon is quite central even though it is directly mentioned only three times.
So rich and evocative is the poem that it had been set to music by Arnold Schoenberg in 1899. Listen to the sumptuous, haunting and romantic music “Transfigured Night” and imagine . . . . .

Sound Eagle, I am sorry to say when I went to listen to Transfigured Night, it is blocked in this country (USA) on copyright infringements. But, the poem is beautiful. Karen 🙂

How unusual! You are the first to report the problem. Besides, the piece was composed in 1899 and therefore is not copyrighted.

Thanks for sharing all this SoundEagle. I was able to listen to this. Its a lovely classical melancholy piece. There appeared to be 2 different videos and the second one worked. I think the viewing problems on some youtube videos are not to do with copywright always but also to do with new laws we don’t even know about stopping people from some countries viewing content in other countries. I have noticed it a lot recently. It’s hard to keep up with how the internet is changing! But there seems less freedom of sharing information now. Thank-you for your feedback and for sharing your post.

Both beautiful. I love Tubular Bells. In the 1990’s I was really into the music of Mike Oldfield. Bought a lot of his CDs and read his Autobiography. I can play Tubular Bells and Hergest Ridge on the piano. Tubular Bells is such an amazing tune. There are a few versions of Carol of the Bells about. I’ve heard one really haunting version before though can’t find it. It wasn’t the one you sent though.

I don’t know Mike Oldfield’s music (except I know that was the video I sent you). I am a fan of George Winston’s though, who played the Carol of the Bells video. I’ll check out Hergest Ridge. I’m jealous that you can play the piano!

He’s got other great stuff though that is what he is most famous for. Yeah I like piano but you could learn at any age. I want to learn the Electric Guitar.

My brother taught himself guitar. He’s pretty good. I learnt a bit of acoustic guitar on a Greek island. But I need to get back into Music soon. Oh don’t wait till retirement!

That George Winston piece is beautiful for piano though have listened to it there. Carol of the Bells is a classic.
