Horror Comedy Cartoon – The Simpsons – Treehouse of Horror – Halloween Specials – The Raven

The Treehouse of Horror

Back in the 1990’s “The Simpsons” creators conjured up a series of Halloween Specials. Spooky themed episodes of the Simpsons called “The TreeHouse of Horror”. They were animated scary stories told in the Simpson Family TreeHouse and had a horror, supernatural or science-fiction theme.

The Raven

“The Raven” based on the famous poem by Edgar Allen Poe was the third episode of these. In this episode Homer Simpson is the lead character in this hilarious animated version of The Raven.

There is an an introduction by Lisa with most of the narration and storytelling by American Actor James Earl Jones who sets the mood perfectly with his atmospheric voice. Homer quotes lines from the poem and interjects doing part of the narration himself.

Who is The Raven?

In this case it’s Bart Simpson! He is depicted as the Raven and is driving Homer to distraction. Lisa and Marge are depicted as Seraphims.

I recently wrote about “The Raven” and featured animations, some really great musical renditions of the poem and amazing Artwork by Abigail Larson.

“The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe (1809 – 1849) is one of the most famous poems ever written. It is internationally renowned for it’s musicality, stylised language and supernatural haunting ambience.

I won’t detail the whole of this Simpsons animation. You can watch it for yourself! Prepare to be horrified.

  1. I love the Tree House of Horror specials and the Raven episode was my favorite!! One of the things on my bucket list is to be able to recite The Raven in it’s entirety by heart. I can still recite whole Dr Seuss books from when the kids were little but haven’t mastered this poem…..
