Julianne Hough Sizzles as JOLENE – The Flame Haired Femme Fatale though Dolly admits she originally had Miley Cyrus in mind – Dolly Parton “Heartstrings” now on NETFLIX

Dolly Parton

Moving swiftly from the GOTHIC world of VAMPIRES and the new BBC / NETFLIX Dracula Mini-Series to the Sunshiney and Glamorous world of Country Music. You can tell why I liked “TRUE BLOOD”. 🙂

Now who doesn’t like Dolly Parton? She’s such a great, glamorous singer and entertainer with a superb sense of humour and charisma! I remember her quote when asked how she felt about being called a dumb blonde? Her reply was; “Well, I know I’m not dumb and I know I’m not blonde”!

Jolene – one of Dolly’s most loved songs

Everyone has a favourite song of hers. I like “9-5” cause it’s a song a lot of people can relate to obviously and also “Islands in the Stream” and of course, the sensational, epic “JOLENE”!

It was released in 1973 and ranks on the Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of all time. Of all the songs Dolly Parton has released, Jolene is the one most covered by other artists. Jolene is where Heartstrings begins. I started watching the first episode last night.

Heartstrings

“Heartstrings” is a mini-series that premiered on NETFLIX, last night – Friday 22nd November 2019. Dolly created this series in partnership with Netflix and appears in all 8 episodes. Heartstrings tells the stories behind the songs with artistic licence of course. Each episode is loosely based on one of Dolly’s songs.

Julianne Hough as Jolene

The first episode is “Jolene” played by 31 year old blonde Julianne Hough, an American Award winning, Actress, Dancer and Singer. She appears in a flame haired wig and tight blue denim shorts. She’s everything you expect Jolene to be! Incredibly attractive, confident, feisty, flirtatious, extrovert and very talented too.

Who was Jolene?

Dolly Parton has revealed that Jolene was based on two things; a Red haired, leggy bank cashier that flirted with her husband in Nashville and a young girl approaching her to get an autograph called Jolene. Dolly said, that’s a cute name, I’m gonna write a song about that.

That’s all I’ve watched so far…. I bet you’re dying to watch this to see what JOLENE looks like now, right…? You can watch it on NETFLIX.

“Songs, they’re just stories, put to music. Songs I’ve written are stories of my life. Every triumph, every struggle, every smile, every sorrow. It’s the melody of my memories – it’s the sound of my heartstrings.” (Dolly Parton)

Miley Cyrus and Jolene

Will leave you with the talented and pretty Miley Cyrus with her version of Jolene. I was thinking as I watched this that Miley would have made an amazing Jolene too! And she has performed this song in a duet with Dolly. Coincidentally, according to National Music Express, Miley was in fact Dolly’s first choice for the role. But she was very happy with Julianne in the end.

“Years back when I used to think of Jolene, you know, before Julianne came on, I used to think… ‘I’d love Miley.’ She would have been great at that as well. But Miley was doing other things.” (NME)

Update: So I watched a bit of this and I really wanted to like it but I couldn’t get into the script really. :-/ But I will always love the song Jolene. 🙂

  1. I hope you mean the TV Mini series and not the song Jolene! Lol. 😄 Or I would have to ask, as a Dolly fan, where have you been hiding all these years???! Ha.

Presuming you mean the series. 🙂 I only noticed the series the other night when it popped up on Netflix. Didnt see any promotion of it prior.
