DRACULA has not materialised on NETFLIX in the UK and IRELAND yet it is streaming in the USA – What is going on? (Update. Dracula is now on Netflix July 2020)

UPDATE: DRACULA IS NOW ON NETFLIX! July 2020
DRACULA was due to air GLOBALLY on NETFLIX on Sunday 4th January 2020

Back in November I posted about the new upcoming DRACULA Mini series which was a collaboration between the BBC and NETFLIX. It was airing on the BBC early January, New Years Day and then to air on NETFLIX Globally on Saturday 4th January 2020.

DRACULA has not materialised on NETFLIX in the UK and IRELAND

LOTS of HYPE, lots of social media and even last week I saw DRACULA Posters on buses and different advertising points. I went on NETFLIX – No sign of DRACULA. I thought what’s happening? Googled it. Nothing.

So what’s happening?

So I contacted NETFLIX to see what the delay was.

Netflix Dracula

Technical and Legal problems with NETFLIX showing DRACULA in the UK and IRELAND

Apparently there are some PROBLEMS. Yes it was meant to be released GLOBALLY on the 4th January. But this has NOT happened in the UK and IRELAND. So if you are sitting in the UK or IRELAND thinking where’s my vampire? Now you know!

Apparently there is technical and legal problems going on with airing this in the UK and IRELAND as apparently the laws here are different from the rest of the world. They won’t or can’t detail what the issues are.

You can watch it on BBC or  BBC i-player though but you will need to pay for a TV Licence

I don’t have a TV for various reasons and you need a licence to watch BBC anyway. There’s never much on there I’m interested in and now you need to pay for a TV licence to watch i-player. Just this show appealed. So I am not going to sign up with BBC for the sake of one show.

I have a laptop and NETFLIX does me fine. I have always been a fan. In this instance though I can see the advantages of having a TV over Netflix. And in this instance, the BBC appear to be moving away from a more old fashioned and stuffy image to creating a more seductive appeal for modern and younger audiences.

Can NETFLIX let people know what is happening with DRACULA

On this occasion I am disappointed as there is no update on this when you log into your NETFLIX account. There is nothing letting people know there is a delay with the release date. I mean who knows when it will appear on NETFLIX here. They don’t seem to know.

Dracula BBC and Netflix Mini Series

Dracula will still be on NETFLIX UK and IRELAND they just don’t know when

Would be great if NETLFIX could let people know the delay on Social Media and on online channels. I was starting to think “Did I imagine Dracula was flying onto Netflix?”

MAJOR Marketing Campaign but the Vampire has not materialised

A few days ago I was in town and there was DRACULA posters everywhere on billboards and on buses. Talk about Teasing people!!! I was looking thinking, right when I get home I am switching you on. When I got home he was nowhere to be found. There is a major marketing campaign going on, yet the man himself has not in fact materialised on the screen for NETFLIX fans in the UK and IRELAND.

Netflix BBC Dracula

You can watch DRACULA on NETFLIX in the USA though

I just had my brother in America Whatsapp me saying “Have you seen the new Dracula?” I’m not reading his message in case he gives something away. So he is sitting there in the USA watching it. And I am sitting here in a cold, bleak, dark January in Ireland, home of Bram Stoker, author of Dracula unable to watch it. GRRRRR

NETFLIX let us know what is happening

This is disappointing to be honest. Early January is a time people are off work and it’s cold and it’s good to sit in and watch shows. I have friends around the world watching it on Netflix that I told about it but I can’t watch it on NETFLIX myself. Boo hoo.

Lots of Hype, lots of Reviews,  lots of Spoilers but I want to watch it first

I’ve seen reviews of this show all over the internet but I don’t want to read them till I watch it but there are already spoilers.

As yet there is no release date now for DRACULA on NETFLIX in the UK and IRELAND

So, if you are in the UK and IRELAND and you don’t have a TV or licence for BBC i-player and you wanted to watch DRACULA on NETFLIX. Hold tight!!! We may be in the dark for some time….

NETFLIX said as yet they do not have an official release date for the DRACULA mini series in the UK and IRELAND. The page for Dracula on Netflix is coming up as coming soon. Not sure how it is in the rest of the world Dracula and Netflix fans. Maybe you can check him out. Maybe you can’t.

He always was an elusive character. As the BBC Poster states, a “Bloody Legend”. I just hope he’s worth the wait!!! 😉

If you don’t have a TV and are dying to watch this on NETFLIX, “Try and stay calm…You’re doing very well….”

Netflix have a telephone number on their website so if you want to know what the delay is it might be worth giving them a call. As yet there is still no official release date for viewing Dracula on NETFLIX in the UK and IRELAND. Waiting and Wondering…

Meanwhile there is some other good stuff on Netflix. But looking forward to watching this.

  1. so sorry to hear this. I hope you get to watch it soon and that your brother in not taunting you too much. I did not know that Bram Stoker was from Ireland; one more name to add to the list of great Irish writers.

    1. It’s no biggie! Ha ha. I was just curious as to why it was not available to watch on Netflix as I’m sure other people are too. So did a little bit of detective work.

No my bro was just messaging to say he’s watching it! As I had sent him the trailer for it a while back. Most people I know are into Dracula. Who isn’t? He is one of the most famous characters in the world and the most famous Vampire on the entire planet.

Yes Bram Stoker, who wrote Dracula was from Clontarf in the Northside of Dublin. He wrote Dracula when he was in his 40s.

  2. Well isn’t that a bummer. I began watching it today, all I’ll say is that they have taken it in a slightly different direction. I’ll say no more.

        1. Same here. I prefer PREVIEWS! Like this is coming and a bit of blurb. I don’t tend to read reviews. I would just rather watch something. It’s all personal perspective reviews. But I like previews as it gives you a bit of background and lets you know something is coming. 🙂

        2. I like previews as well, however sometimes they show to much or the best parts, so that you already know half the story. 🙂

    1. It’ll be here soon enough I’m sure and if not I can pop over to a friends house and watch it on TV. Just thought there was bound to be other people wondering why it was not on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.

  3. Have you had any update on this? it’s no longer on iPlayer, I assumed the technical/legal bit was, as it was a joint bbc Netflix production, they weren’t allowed to compete with each other over here. I had hoped when it finished on iPlayer it would allowed to appear on Netflix… clearly a fools hope.

    1. Hey Sarah. I just enquired once about it and thought like you maybe after it was shown on BBC it might then appear on NETFLIX. I didnt realise it was off i-player now too. I thought things stayed on there for a while. Hmmm…… No idea what’s happening with that really. 🦇🦇🦇

  4. Thank you for this, I’m a Netflix subscriber who has been wondering what on earth’s going on. Reading everywhere else you’d think it had been released here; even the Wikipedia page states that it was broadcast and released on Netflix with no clarification that that didn’t happen in the UK. I’m very disappointed that Netflix UK users have been screwed over by this and that despite our subscriptions helping fund DRACULA we are not given the chance to watch it.

  5. It’s very odd. I had travelled to Transylvania for the first time in October 2019 and returned in November 2019 and was really looking forward to seeing it as I was kind of on a Dracula roll! It was very hyped up! And I could see the posters and thought it was screening in early January 2020. I think it is still a complete mystery to everyone why it didn’t appear on NETFLIX. Am presuming it will at some point…
