MISS AMERICANA
Just watched “Miss Americana” on NETFLIX. It’s a really intimate documentary about Taylor Swift from Emmy Award Winning Director Lana Wilson. It’s definitely worth watching and it shines a light on the vulnerable girl behind the performer. It premiered recently at The Sundance Film Festival.
NETFLIX describe it as follows; “In this revealing documentary, Taylor Swift embraces her role as a songwriter and performer – and as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.”
Award Winning Artist
We all know Taylor Swift for being an Award Winning Artist. She signed her first record deal aged 15. She has won so many awards that you could lose count. We know her from her colourful music videos and pop meets country image. We recognise her songs on the radio. She sings about her personal life, her real life experiences and romances providing inspiration and her image is splashed across magazines.
“Having sold more than 50 million albums—including 37 million in the US, Swift is one of the world’s best-selling music artists and the highest-earning female musician of the 2010s. She has won 10 Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, six Guinness world records and is the most-awarded act at the American Music Awards with 29 wins, and most-awarded woman at the Billboard Music Awards with 23 wins. As a songwriter, Swift has been honoured by the Songwriters Hall of Fame and was included in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.” (Wikipedia)
Heartfelt and Moving Documentary
Miss Americana shows us the everyday girl behind the Megastar. It’s actually a really Heartfelt and moving documentary. What makes it really watchable is that she is really relatable, intelligent, interesting and has a good personality. If you liked Taylor Swift, the famous American Musician and Singer before you are going to love her after watching this. She is just so genuine and she has such a good heart.
This documentary shows just how hard it is to be a female in show business. How you can be in the limelight one minute with adoring fans, then at the centre of a twitter hate storm or a just a normal girl alone with your thoughts. She talks about winning awards and having no-one to share her success with. And she’s been through her fair share of Heartbreaks.
Animal Lover
At the beginning the cutest cat walks across the piano. Taylor Swift is an animal lover and a fan of Veganism. She’s also one of the most down to earth singers I have seen in a documentary like this. She is so young but she has been through so much and she really opens up here. There’s one thing I love and that is genuine, real people. She feels her pain and she works through it.
Difficult Moments
There was that Kanye moment at 17, then that moment she got sexually assaulted. She then decided to come out about her political beliefs. She’s a Democrat living in Nashville. She stands for women’s rights, equality and just basic kindness really. She supports charities to help women who have been victims of sexual violence or assault. She donates and supports a diverse range of charities internationally including The Red Cross, charities in her local area and donated a signed guitar to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) for their 35th Anniversary Online Auction. So both a Humanitarian and Animal Rights supporter.
Still a Rising Star
She is pretty, shiny and talented. She is aware that her Star has a certain time to shine and she’s determined to work hard to make the most of that. She’s going to have fun making music, dressing up, dancing, touring and performing while she has her youth and energy and enthusiasm. Go Taylor. I am sure she is going to be around for a long time though. I think it’s a myth now in the modern age that women have a shelf life. Nobody does people just evolve. You don’t hang up your sparkly jacket at a certain age you just diversify.
The Darkness behind every Shining Star
When you see artists up on a stage you marvel at how adored they are and forget that they can be insecure and sad and lonely and also feel not good enough and hurt and scared. And you want to say forget those doubters just keep sparkling. We all should. Just be yourself and start to sparkle. Never let the inner light fade.
Down To Earth
I actually just loved seeing her lounging about and starting to write songs. She’s just so cute and she’s really talented. It was really entertaining seeing how excited her fans were when they got to meet her. And she’s so lovely to them. What can I say just a really nice girl with strong ethics and morals and a really pure heart. I don’t get why people have to say things like she’s cultivating an image or something. Like at the end of the day some girls are naturally sweet or sensitive or loving and that’s okay. Why does kindness, empathy, emotion have to be viewed as some kind of projected persona. Some people are nice people. It’s the best way to be.
Taking Time Out
Taylor Swift decided to opt out for a year when things got too much and why not. Everyone needs time on their own. Time away from the limelight. Their 40 days in the wilderness to find themselves. Honestly the life of a celebrity would be a really hard one. But some people are called to express their talents on a global stage. And the world needs people like this. It craves these glittering performers so far removed from the everyday mundane. Despite Taylor suffering her own difficulties, her Star continues to rise. Because she is strong. She is determined. And she knows her fame allows her to make change not just for her but for others.
The Marvellous Miss Swift
Taylor Swift tried to be nice trying to please everyone. But then realised even if you are nice bad things happen. 😦 Then she decided to take a stand. She came into her own. People stood up and took notice. Nice girl’s don’t make history, isn’t that what they say. If raising her voice makes her bad then bad she will be. But hey, she’ll always be nice. That’s in her nature and it’s beautiful. But now she’s making her voice heard. Not just musically. She raises the voices of females across the planet and for this you have to love her.
In Miss Americana, Taylor Swift opens up and shows a honesty that is refreshing, she’s not afraid to reveal her vulnerability and in doing so she demonstrates her power. She was sweetly singing all those years, now she’s actually talking. She’s feminine. elegant, creative and passionate about what she does. She’s a formidable force. Fine featured, finely tuned and finally taking a stand. Arise… The Marvellous Miss Swift…

I don’t know much about her music personally (I know she is a superstar), but I’ve heard good things about her as a person. this sounds like it is worth watching. thanks.

I didn’t know too much about her music either. She’s obviously famous so I had heard a few of her songs. And had seen her on TV and in magazines and stuff. I saw that documentary pop up on Netflix and yeah it is worth watching. I think musicians and actors and famous people get portrayed a certain way in the media so I think it’s great to see them away from the spotlight giving an honest account of their life and the pressures of fame.

Same here. I remember her music in the background. But didn’t actually follow her as such. That song with the thriller like video, “Look What you Made me Do” made me go, Wow! What’s happened to Taylor Swift. Such a great theatrical video. Amazingly done. But I liked her older stuff too like “Love Story”. The media represents such a shallow representation of female celebrities and artists and we rarely see the real individual behind this almost holographic image of a person. Really good documentary. And she works really hard. I reckon this is the just the beginning for her. 🙂 Loved it.
