Women who Run with the WOLVES… Myths and Stories of The Wild Woman Archetype

Happy Wolf Moon

Happy Full Wolf Moon! A friend recently said she was reading a book called “Women who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of The Wild Woman Archetype”. She said it was amazing. So I have added it to my 2020 Reading list.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Poet, Writer, Jungian Psychoanalyst

It was written by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, a Poet and a Jungian Psychoanalyst. It was published in 1992 and was a New York Times Best Seller.

“In Women Who Run with the Wolves, Estés analyses myths, fairy tales, folk tales and stories from different cultures to uncover the Wild Woman archetype of the feminine psyche. The book stems from these interpretations of old tales and creates this wolf-woman parallel, by incorporating her own previous studies that suggest “wolves and women are relational by nature.”The notion of the archetype is associated with the work of Carl Jung.” (Wikipedia)

Book Review on Youtube

I will write a review when I read it. Maybe some of you out there have already read it. But if you haven’t maybe you will like it. I found a really good, sincere book review for it on Youtube from Micheala Ranz which gives you a nice feel for it. It seems to be a very healing book.

Thought I would mention it on this the FULL WOLF MOON. Xox

  1. I read that book about ten years ago and found it fascinating. If you’re a fan of fairytales (the old ones, before Disney took the nasty bits out) you’ll love it!

  2. Thanks for the feedback. I’ve just ordered it. 🙂 And yes big fan of fairy tales. Modern and old. And yes love the old style folk tales that are more realistic than Disney. Have you read Angela Carter? You would probably love her stuff if you are into dark fairy tales. 🙂

    1. Yeah my friend was really into this book, talking about it last week so I thought, I need to check this book out. 🙂 It’s cold hibernating, snuggle up, read books, long baths, light candles time of year. 🙂

      1. I’ll have to see if the library has a copy. Best things to do during winter, sometimes I miss those frosty mornings.

        1. I do it all the time. I look on line than place a hold for the book or dvd they send me an email when they’ve pulled it or it comes back, I than have 7 days to pick it up. Great savings too 🙂

        2. Yes. And less clutter. Except I’m a bit of a book and record collector! Second hand bookshops aren’t bad. But it’s just books are never in any order so they are more for spontaneous buys. The thing with library books is the time limits and fines and if they will actually have the book you want. But yeah it’s worth doing that again. I used to go to the library more.
