Who remembers “The Munsters”? In a slump of boredom a few weeks ago I picked up a copy of the National Enquirer along with some crisps and chocolate and basic groceries in a boring everyday shop that held no surprises. It’s the kind of magazine I read when I’m in the mood for a cigarette or a few bars of chocolate and also bored. LOL.
It’s lots of pictures and quick easy reading. It’s kind of the fast food of magazines. Plus it’s American so it’s a little bit of escapism and glamour and gossip. Swimming Pools and Sunshine. π
I usually try to get Mind, Body and Spirit type magazines or Health magazines. But right now I have decided to stop buying magazines because basically I was spending too much money on magazines I couldn’t afford and I wasn’t even really reading them properly.
Anyway on the back on this one was an Advertisement a little bit more exciting than the usual National Enquirer offerings. A MUNSTERS Cuckoo Clock! Ha ha. On the back of this sunny American magazine. It just reminded me of The Munsters TV show and that famous theme song. That was a fun kind of show.
Instead of a Cuckoo though there is a Raven. Charlie the Raven “a perfectly spooky cuckoo always watching from his tower window”. Although he doesn’t pop in and out. It’s described as “Spooktacular” and hand painted capturing the darkly enchanting Gothic detail of The Munster Mansion. A “first of it’s kind black and white timepiece”.
It’s pricey enough but for a Cuckoo Clock I guess it’s not really. And the great thing about these National Enquirer Ads is they make things affordable! Ha ha. Pay Nothing Now. And then an instalment option so most things are within the grasp of mere mortals.
Have to say the back of the National Enquirer seems like a really good place to advertise. I am constantly tossing magazines on the floor. π
Anyway if someone out there wants one of these they are made by The Bradford Exchange. But you can also get them on Amazon etc. I just thought I’d share this as it’s one of the quirkiest things I’ve seen advertised in The National Enquirer.
Meanwhile here is what The MUNSTERS Cuckoo Clock would look like if you got one. π
